What to do?|
Okay, the deal is...I don't want to do one of these "cullings" that it seems like half of my friends (and thankfully I've very rarely been on the "chopping block," thank you friends) have done...I think I'm going to have to chop my default view down to a bare minimun, though. As it is now, if I let a day go by, without checking LJ, there's so many postings that I can't possibly read even a fraction in detail, let alone comment...and I want LiveJournal to be a useful little hobby, as opposed to a lifestyle.
So, I think I'm not going to cull my friends list itself, but I'm going to do something to chew my default friends view down to size; maybe make a few "auxiliarry" groups that I read in addition when I have "spare time" (whatever that is).
Okay, I had too much caffeine, too late at night...but I think I'm finally ready to sleep now.
Oh, ate way too much food this weekend--big-time badness. Receptions, mom's home cookin'. Definitely back an the exercise wagon (heel is feeling better but still sore..sticking to the bikes for another couple of days before running again.
Saw christilyn and her not-yet-assimilated fiance, Sean...Yes, I think she's "met her match." He's a keeper..fellow systems and network "geek," mainly networking, but I got a little "geek-of-all-trades" vibe, mainly from the assorted miscellaneous hardware lying around. Quinn took the rebuffs from Christy's kitties reasonably well for a toddler...the kitties ran away, to comments like "Kitty can't like me." (awwwww) I tried to explain that it was nothing personal, but that little boys and girls tended to scare all kitties because they are big, loud, and prone to chasing. Truth is, if Quinn can get a kitty to sit still for him, he's so good with it...stroking just right (and in the correct direction) or inviting play with a kitty toy. It's just that kitties don't have any way of knowing that this boy is one of the Nice Ones...of course the fact that he runs at them full tilt before stopping short to pet or play probably doesn't help his case. Kitties don't seem to understand that the only speeds toddlers seem to have are "zoom" and "gyrate."
You can try the first set of default views that a lot of people try.
This being one view for real people and one or more views for the communities. In your case, some of the community views could be computer games and conventions. (For example.)
Custom groups are your friend. :)
I basically split my list into a few smaller lists and catch up on them one by one when I have the time. It means I don't have to remove anyone from my friends list and I don't have to miss anything. :)
I was on the chopping block myself lately with several people it seems. I have no clue why or what caused them to remove me, but I hate to see that. I read when I can and comment when I can, but it seems more and more people are deleting people from their friends' lists. I hope you don't drop me too! lol, If you do, I'd understand. I guess people all have their reasons. Oh well, right?
Hey, haven't seen you on the Sims lately. Make sure you stop and see me some time soon, will ya?

my intent is not to drop friends at all...
...but to drop the number of people I read on my "default view" screen down to the bare-minimum-read-on-a-regular basis...and then take the others and make a list of "read on the weekends/when I have time."
That probably means that I'll not be commenting to entries on that latter list that I miss simply because to read them would mean going back hundreds of total posts.

Re: my intent is not to drop friends at all...
Oh yeah, I understand completely. I've been contemplating the same thing!
