Another exhausting day|
Today was bifurcated. After the standard horse and chicken care, we spent the morning working on fencing and getting the upper pasture ready for horses. In the afternoon prettypammie went shopping and ran other errands. I took Q to the Loudoun County Fairgrounds where the 4-H Poultry Club was setting up cages for their exhibits in the small animal barn. I've been one of the few fathers at most of the regular club meetings. I remarked on this, and never really got much of an explanation. I finally found out when the dads show up...the week before fair when there are power tools to play with! It was actually pretty comical. The carriage bolts had been pounded in and out of the setups so many times that many had to be re-threaded forcefully. The holes and boards had not been made with a jig, so you had to use the matching boards and stands. Some of the marks have rubbed off over the years, resulting in some pretty wobbly chicken-cage stands [at least until the appropriate swaps were made]. Q had a good time riding in the back of the pickup truck from the storage shed to the barn.
After that, with heat indices over 100 degreees, the only one with any energy left was Q.
In any event, we're really looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the fair. Please let us know when you are going, as we will be in and out--but Q would be thrilled to talk to you about Ms. Frizzlehead, his Rhode Island Red on exhibit, if you catch up with him there.

I'll be there on Sunday night watching a friend ride in the Gamblers Choice competition... but it looks like livestock arrive on Monday morning.
Hmmm....I really want to see you guys. Maybe I'll try to stop by sometime during the week. Would you be able to let me know when you will def. be there?

Just accidentially posted a comment as anonymous. Figured it'd be pretty weird to read that someone wanted to come visit you and not know who posted it! lol

I really want to come say hi though.... so maybe I'll get out there sometime during the week. Can you give me an idea of when a good time to catch you would be?

Well, Saturday night, the 1st...
is the big 4-H kids ride in the carnival free night, like years past, I think....
so we're almost sure to be there, then.
I mentioned to Pam about the equestrian events the night before the full fair opens, so maybe she'll be there, then.
Ms Frizzlehead?! How cute! My pet chicken when I was a kid was "Sunny Ducky" - a BEAUTIFUL Rock rooster who got mean as hell as he got older. Those spurs were at least 4" long... but he never attacked me. :)
Rhode Island Reds are sort of a family tradition - my mother raised them, and both my Aunts have them. I have to say their personalities are very nice - they are sure all people are there to feed them, and come running.
my parents have a smattering of reds and of rocks. My dad is a big chicken man and I always try to find some unique chicken related gift to get him. :)

Will you be there for the rodeo?
Are you planning to be there for the rodeo on Thursday or Friday? I may try to get out there for that so if you are perhaps we'll see you there.
It's AnnShh btw.... I apparently used up my allowed number of log-in tries trying to remember my password. oops!

We'll be there Friday for sure, because...
that's the Poultry Club dinner.
Thursday we'll be prepping for it, so probably there then, too...
In fact, maybe you can take Q to the Rodeo while Pam and I quarter chickens.
