I use Y!IM but that's because both my boys (and the majority of my friends) have log ons and I can set it to my phone. I agree the spam is bad, but at least on my phone I can just ignore it since it comes through as a text. Though, when I'm on the computer I actually mark it as spam.
I get maybe 3-4 a day, not sure how bad yours is.

I use it. It works. *None* of the systems are any good, with openware ICQ still being the best of the worst, but it's getting hard to tell one corporate clone from another.
I still use Yahoo - some days I get slammed. Most days I get nothing. I'm annoyed by it, but I'm not ready to quit.
Trillian Astra pissed me off. They talked linux kernel support (which was why I was interested in it) but that didn't come through, then when I went to install it in the *ONLY* place I use it - at work - I couldn't use it. There wasn't proxy support. *shrug*.
I like the concept - I even like one of the early creators/developers. But that's not enough to keep me coming back or to pay for a new license when it's released. I'm sticking with pidgin.
I left those yahoos years ago when they slammed my mail preferences twice in about six months. I use AIM and can't remember the last time I got spammed; AOL has been *very* pro-active about the issue. And of course I use pidgin.
Most of my chatting is on private servers, though; work has a private IRC, and the folks over at the Murkworks have a social mush...
I don't use it, but was getting enough spam that I switched back to the old version of yahoo mail. (the new one would open up new windows for every im spam and then question me when I tried to quit)

I do. Matter of fact, when I logged on last night, there must've been at least 20 friends logged in as well.
I have Yahoo IM and AOL IM, but I use Trillian to compile it all. It does not delete ALL the spam IM crap (which I am SO frustrated with too) but it seems less than when I use Y!IM by itself. My Y!IM is lragsdale67.
I do. I have been using it during the day while logged into my Yahoo mail account. At home I've been using Adium for IMing, but that's still using my Y!M handle.

I have it active because I have friends still active on it... but oh god, the spam is terrible.
I only use it to talk to my parents, and the rare instances where I have the webcam up. I try to use Jabber as much as possible.

I use it on pidgin...I've got it set up so that if I haven't friended you, you can't IM me...you can request friendship, but can't IM until it's established.
I use all of them...AIM, ICQ, Jabber via Gtalk and LJ, IRC...I've got friends on all of them and I just run it all under pidgin on both my Windows and Linux boxes.
I do. I have a few friends who I probably communicate exclusively by Y! with. And I use GTalk less than Y! because I didn't care for Pidgin and when last I checked the free version of Trillian doesn't support it (unless I'm missing something there, in which case, please point me at it.)
I admit, I don't get a lot of spam via IM though.

I have to use it for work (and AIM, and MSN, and Skype. :) ) I get 1-2 spams per day, usually when I login, so it's not a big deal to just kill those windows in Trillian.

I use it since there are some folks who refuse to move to XMPP based messaging clients. I get a couple of sex spam a week, nothing worth noting.
I do use yahoo mail for various things, but I paid the $20 for th e POP3 option, so it goes into my normal internal spam filters before I read it.
I'm using Pidgin on the laptop and adium on the mac.

I use Y! and AIM both at work and home. Maybe I'm the weird one, but I don't get much spam at all.
