Here's what LJ-support says...
According to LJ Support:

It is possible to insert an lj-cut within your table safely without breaking the HTML of the page. It necessitates putting the "lj-cut" tag at the beginning of the first cell of the first row that you wish to be hidden. The following code is an example for a two-column table with "n" cells:

So, let me know if this breaks your friends page, okay?

Visible cell 1 Visible cell 2
Cut cell 1 Cut cell 2
Cut cell n-1 Cut cell n

Fine for me.

It makes sense. You gotta have the table tag outside the cut. The hidden rows hide behind the cut.

Either way it's the same it renders itself.

apparently, though, it's sensitive.

If you put the cut after the [tr] tag, as opposed to the [td] tag, it didn't do the right thing.

No breakage here.

Also, I got your message this morning (although I didn't understand part of what you were asking), but when I called back a few minutes later it rolled right to voice mail. As for this weekend, we're free during the day on Sunday but we have plans in DC at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday evening we're going to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, and we have one extra ticket, if you're interested in coming along.
