"Steeling" myself for the bill The repairs to get everything both up to code and the way we want it have begun. Today a crew of brawny individuals shored up the house, pulled out the failed LVL beam, and put the steel girder in place. After sitting in the field all these months, I think it needs sanding and painting. Oy.
The other two girders are going to become structural members for the barn, I think. 84 Lumber is accepting the return of the special order LVL beam that we took out--finally at least one party to this fiasco is owning up to the fact that they might have made a mistake. I'm not sure if they're taking the steel that we can't use back, too. Our GC may be waiting until we get a final, firm engineering assessment of the center beams...they were engineered to spec, but then they were notched...we shall see.

The center beams are 2 1/8" deeper than the design spec for where the columns are, which means that as long as the notches aren't more than an inch deep, we should be okay. ![[User Picture]](https://l-userpic.livejournal.com/12871551/2628440) | From: | vettecat |
