Horrible rumor I heard at brunch yesterday...

Is Coke really going to stop producing Lime Diet Coke?

I see purchases of limes or lime juice in my future...plus the logistical complications thereunto appertaining.

EDIT: Thanks to yendi for pointing out the press release indicating that diet lemon and vanilla were getting the axe...no big surprise. All the Lemon drinkers I know went Lime shortly after it was released--and I don't think I know any vanilla afficianados. [IMHO, YMMV]

EDIT^2: With friends like mine, I should not be surprised that the eclectic tastes you represent include at least four of you who liked the Diet Vanilla. I mourn your loss.

As I recall, it was vanilla and lemon that were given the axe -- http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000103&sid=abJ8evYV54Hw&refer=us

I occasionally liked diet vanilla. However, it really didn't taste closely like regular vanilla coke. Lime, however, I liked a lot.

So, it's vanilla vodka if I want to recreate that experience (unless there are some non-alcoholic vanilla flavoring out there).

The Torani and Monin syrups will do the trick. Torani even has a sugar-free vanilla syrup, if you want to preserve the whole sugar-free experience. You can find Torani, at least, in the grocery store in the coffee/tea/hot chocolate aisle.

I tried mixing the sugar-free vanilla syrup with the Splenda Diet Coke and it came out reasonably well.

the exception that proves the rule, don't you?

I'm sorry for your loss...unless you're not mourning vanilla getting the axe like I would be if it were Lime...

I loved the vanilla. They decided to discontinue it over here to introduce diet cherry instead because they think that fruit flavours will have more appeal with the helath food conscious segment of the population.

Alas, no. I could only just afford to fly home for Christmas. I won't be able to make it back to the US until at least May, if not later.

vanilla was the only palatable version for me.

time to stock up on vanilla, then i guess it's back to generic diet coke, and not the splenda crap either.

We liked the diet vanilla coke with our vodka :)

But we tried the new diet black cherry vanilla coke last night and really liked it.

The diet lime is nice once in a while.

So, on the off chance that I can get a *real* vanilla coke— mixed by a soda jerk, etc.— I grab it every chance I can. Heaven on earth, really.
But Coke's attempt at bottling this experience was just so fundamentally flawed, I'm not sad to see it go.

there was an aftertaste to the non-diet version, and both a taste and after-taste of the diet version that never worked for me.

Vanilla Diet Coke is actually my favorite variety, and I'm really annoyed that it's going away. I don't really care for the lime version, and the lemon one tastes to me like furniture polish in soft drink format.

Lemon Pledge, the Soft Drink...I think that's not what the Coke product designers were going for, but it's what they accomplished, yes yes...

I agree with the taste, I've used that exact expression previously to describe the taste.

The sadness I anticipate is that many diabetics I know and others around them really enjoy the diet vanilla beverages. I think I'm going to begin hording.

Is the flavor better for diabetics, or is it just that diabetics have fewer drink choices, so losing one they like is more difficult?
