Someone been abusing version control again? Hee hee... What do you guys use for version control anyway? I'm trying to decide if we should switch.

Believe it or not, good old-fashioned CVS. They use a variety of Windows front-ends. I think Eclipse and Rational XDE have built-in CVS plug-ins, but they also use WinCVS.

I think there's some discussion of using SubVersion.

Yeah, I've been thinking about Subversion... I was hoping to evaluate it at home, but these days I don't have much time for programming at home, let alone enough programming to evaluate a version control package. :-)

What kind of machine do they use for the repository? x86/Linux? x86/Windows? Sparc/Solaris? something else?

Does the platform matter?

Well, it shouldn't. But I know from setting up Bugzilla, getting it and the prerequisite packages (MySQL, Apache, etc.) installed is a lot easier under Linux, than say Windows. And I think one of the transports for CVS and subversion is SSH... not sure if there even exists an SSH daemon for Windows.

We're using Subversion/Windows on my current project. I haven't interacted with it directly, but the developers all seem fairly happy. However, we're also developing for a windows environment.

Van Dyke sells one, IIRC, or you could install it under Cygwin.
