I have to wonder what he wrote in his private, encrypted blog--how different a picture it must have than the public face. Reading his journal you see a guy who did his time, got out, got educated, got a job, suffered some amount of discrimination and injustice based on his criminal past, and so on. Sympathetic, even...then all of a sudden, "the demons" get loose--and he is hurting and killing people. I didn't read the whole blog start-to-finish, I don't have that kind of time or the intestinal fortitude.
The scary thing is that there's no doubt that this guy at most seemed "a little off" to neighbors and coworkers--and many seemed to actually have sympathy or even affection for him. The monsters are among us--and we don't know who they are.
Going to see if I can search for registered sex offenders in the area. Just in case.

there's one that seems way too close to the elementary school...I'm going to call them and find out if they know of him and are on the lookout.

The problem with "gulags,"
as you well know, is that they lump in the innocent with the guilty.
If they could come up with a fool-proof prognostic test for violent offenders and sexual predators, I'd say go for it.
How do you tell the difference between the person with a treatable mental condition, a few "deviant thoughts," etc., and the criminal who is merely waiting for an opportunity to offend again.

There are dozens of registered sex offenders in this area. Fewer after you rule out the ones who were convicted of statutory rape when they were 18 and the girl was 16 or 17, but still LOTS.
Hey, when you comin' to town next?
