Some day...

Some day, I will have a party.

I will invite everyone on my IM lists, my Friendster lists, my LinkedIn lists, my mailing lists, my LJ list [of course], my address book, I will go back and find my elementary, junior high, high school, and college friends, my coworkers, my neighbors, my former neighbors. I will scour my stacks of undealt with correspondence collected over the years in various hithers and yons, and get back in touch with all those I never meant to lose touch with. I will invite them to the party.

Now, I run in many circles. Most of these people don't know one another. Some of them love one another. Some are merely friends and acquaintances. Some of these people don't like each other. Some have outright hostility. I expect that out of this party will arise several lifelong friendships, perhaps a marriage or two or three or even a marriage of three or four or more. Children will be conceived. Dreams will be ignited and shattered. Jobs will be won; a fortune will be lost. People will swim naked. Someone will be thrown in the water fully clothed. At least one person will tear another's hair out by the roots.

People will speak of this party for years to come. Legends will grow that place people there who were thousands of miles away that fateful weekend. Reputations will be built and ruined.

prettypammie and I may have to leave the country for a time, until the heat cools down; we've been meaning to tour Europe anyway.

Some day, I will have a party.

It's going to be a while...I see this happening on our new property, which won't be ready for receiving guests in a party way until Spring has Sprung, 2006...

Hey it's your old neighbor...maybe not that old. I didn't see neighbor's on the party list. Yes count me in for the swim if the water isn't too cold...and if my kids aren't there yes I am allowed to swim naked:)

So, a real party, or a "big buildup, but when the actual day arrives, it turns out the less-sexually-secure people show up with their young children in tow, and put the kibosh on PDA"? Obviously my inspiration is driven by distinctions such as that one.

I think that for liability reasons...

...children should probably not attend this shin-dig.

Clearly you aren't being ambitious enough!

Not next door, but somewhere within short walking distance of the Main Party there should be the Mini Party (tm) for your more minaturized guests. At this party there would be a wide assortment of coloring books and video games. There will be several small cute furry animals for them to pet. There will be a slip'n'slide. There will be professional supervision. This will allow your Main Party guests to show up with children and not worry, thus encouraging more attendance/participation from them. 8)

Hrm...

I could always rent the $1.5 mil house next door if it hasn't sold yet...

As long as you don't fall victim to Geek Social Fallacy Number Four, which my husband is especially prone to. He doesn't quite understand why some of our friends want to know what other friends will be in attendance at certain functions, and why an invitation for us to go somewhere isn't an automatic invitation for everyone we know unless explicitly stated.

He's trainable, really. :)

Oh, no, it's quite simple.

I'm making it clear that every body is invited. If someone is concerned that they'll run into someone intolerable to them, they shouldn't attend.

A wise attitude. Nobody, even a friend, has the right to attempt to extort you to not invite another friend.

I recomend buying/renting something for fencing above head height, perhaps used cubicles and not only building a cool ass maze, but also having PDA/clothing optional levels/areas. Make sure you check with your local fire marshal about occupancy and how to stave off malaria, dont' want a repeat of the last woodstock :)
