My letter to the Spartan Polaris team

Dear Ms. Fowler and Mr. Weber:

Please pass on my warm congratulations to the 2005 Skyline Student Launch Initiative team.  I just watched the entire video—and then, being an engineer, I couldn’t resist going through the proposal and program reviews.  I was impressed not only by the rigor of the analyses and attention to detail, but also by the quality of the students’ writing.

All that work paid off with a beautiful launch, flight, and recovery.  That you hit your peak altitude mark with 2.6% error in a 4.7% budget speaks volumes.

Again, congratulations.  I hope some of your students will look up HPTi in a few years when their college careers near an end—we need people with the intellect, spirit, and drive this team demonstrated architecting America’s safety and prosperity with us.
