WTF, OMFG!
It really was some idjit pressing the "Big Red Switch" (BRS), otherwise known as the "Emergency Power Off." c.f. http://www.livejournal.com/community/lj_dev/670215.html

I bet that guy (another customer, who mistook the BRS for a door opener) feels like an idiot of the first order. Oh, and get this--did he see the lights go out and go find someone at Internap? No--he reset the switch and slipped out, only 'fessing up a couple of days later.

Heh. When I started work at Wal-Mart we had a nice long discussion about the BRS, and precisely how much money it would cost the company (expressed in tens of thousands of dollars per minute) if it were pressed unnecessarily.

Sadly, this does not surprise me, tho it is mildly entertaining. I guess too many years working helpdesk have left me jaded.

yeah...

guano occurs...in the case of the great LJ blackout it was Big Guano.

Actually, I'm surprised they didn't lose more data--they really have done a good job.

I bet there are a lot of customers at Internap who lost a bunch...and I bet they all want to tar and feather Mr. Idjit, and also Internap for allowing the BRS to be so exposed--it had less covering it than the tamper-proofing on public fire-alarm pulls, apparently...pretty much a big switch saying "Go on, PUSH ME, I double-dog-dare you!"
