noone's throwing you guys into the coliseum these days, and I don't see Jerry Falwell going "Hey, you can have your holiday back--we got our dates wrong."

I hope you [all] realize that I'm just kidding, and I enjoy Generic Winter Gift-Giving Holiday as much as anyone else, who cares what you call it! Bring on the presents!!!

Are you kidding? Can you imagine the retail revolt if they didn't get their year end shopping boom? And the music industry? Not getting to sing songs like "White Christmas?" It'd be mass chaos. Rioting in the streets. Jerry would be thrown the the lions...oh...wait...that'd be good.

;-)

It was actually Saturnalia that the early Christians co-opted. Those drunken Romans knew how to party. :)

And at least Easter is not based on pagan holidays. It is based on Passover...the first Saturaday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox. What's pagan about that? Huh? Huh?

Well, the vernal equinox itself is a celebrated pagan holiday--it goes by several different names, depending on whose tradition you're talking about...but the first Sabbath after the first full moon after the equinox...only we Jews could come up with something that complicated...

Whoops....and I clearly forgot my winky emoticon in mine.

Okay, from now on you can make the default assumption that I'm being a goofball.

I'll mark any comments that you should actually take seriously with the following tag:

"[seriously]." I'll end them with "[seriously/]".

Only everything?

The entire pagan calendar of holidays is based on the solar and lunar calendars, these being the only things accurately and precisely measurable in the days before GPS, atomic clocks, et al.

Now as to choosing the "first sabbath after the first full moon after the equinox..."

Okay, someone was just being silly...
