I thought this was just a last-minute "where are Pete's goals" paper drill, because I hadn't done them for this cycle...it turns out that my name was on the short list and they needed the additional data to help make the call at the group lead and partner level.
I was all stressed about prettypammie, because she really deserves a promotion even more than I do. I was about to do the unthinkable and go ask my boss for a moment to ask a personnel question about my wife--that's one of those taboos, but I was so wound up, I was going to break it. As I was pushing my chair back and about to take the walk, she showed up at my door unexpectedly (I'm next to the lead's office), saying that he had called her up for a meeting without telling her what it was about.
She's in there now.
I've never tried harder in my life to hold a poker face than when she told me that she was guessing that the meeting with our lead was to talk about our coworker that she mentors that also got an extremely well-earned promotion.
So, I got promoted...AND SO DID prettypammie!
