Electoral college proportionality...

much has been made of getting states to apportion their electoral votes proportionately..My dad conducted a thorough analysis as if every state assigned electors to the electoral college proportionally as a handful of states do that today...

The results for the 2000 election would have been 265 to 262 to 10 in Bush's favor. The reason is that Bush won more states than Gore, and each state comes with two "bonus" electors just for being a state--Gore won populous states like NY and CA, and therefore unquestionably won the "popular election" in total votes...

I believe in our constitution, and that we are a republic not a direct, Athenian democracy. That said, it does seem odd that a Wyoming voter is worth two Californian voters in the electoral college...
