I've finished three out of eighteen mission folders. So far I have learned:
(1) so far the seventh graders I've started with cannot write a single paragraph without one or more glaring grammatical errors and spelling errors.
(2) most don't have any understanding of what a hypothesis is, how one tests a hypothesis, and how one presents conclusions
(3) one team's idea of fair and balanced research on their hypothesis that "breakfast was the most important meal of the day" was going to the web sites of two different breakfast cereal makers.
I could go on, but I have to finish the other fifteen, and I don't want do it while weeping for the future of our world.
p.s. Dear Seventh Graders! If you want to emphasize a point in a scientific paper! Don't think that the judge will be impressed! If you end every sentence! And sentence Fragment! With an exclamation Point!
