These appear to be last week's Friday Five...but I'm going to answer anyway:
What was...
...your first grade teacher's name? I can't believe I recalled: Mrs White (who wasn't)

...your favorite Saturday morning cartoon? Speed Racer--not sure of this, but I still can hum the theme song, so it must have been up there; either that or Bugs Bunny

...the name of your very first best friend? ...Wow...Wow...Y'know what's weird--his name was Krish and I was 23. I had friends before that, MANY friends, girlfriends, too--which I place in a special category...but not really a "best friend." Y'know what, I changed my mind...Trey Garrison...from, like...9th grade? I wonder what happened to him...

...your favorite breakfast cereal? Multi-grain cheerios? Or...well, is that my favorite or just what I eat. Okay, cut bananas in--no milk--and call it my favorite.

...your favorite thing to do after school? When I was in school? Hmm...read, or play computer games.

Speed Racer

I'm pretty sure Speed was on after school television time, not Saturday mornings.

No bads. I was older so remember more clearly. Actually just checked (see what I do when I'm up eating dinner too late) Says it was created in 66. Dubbed into English in '67 and played in the afternoons 5 days a week for almost 20 years (really?)

"Made a comeback on MTV in the 90s and 5 years on the comedy channel."
Guess I missed that.

Bugs was also my Sat amusement of choice.

me either. I didn't have cable too much around then. I wonder if they were just showing repeats - or new stuff.

1.) Sister Maria Frances. She'd be about 68 today, if she's still alive and not burning in that special place in Hell assigned to Catholic nuns who commit criminal assault on the children in their care.

2.) Jonny Quest, once it made its way to Saturday morning after its first year, which was in prime-time.

3.) Eddie Nordman.

4.) Back then, Sugar Frosted Flakes. "They're Gr-r-r-r-eat!!!" My mom once told me that "Kellogg's" was the first word I ever read aloud, off a billboard as we rode in the family car.

5.) Read, or play television. Most kids merely watched t.v. -- I played it, putting on my toy scuba tanks and diving mask at the same time as Lloyd Bridges on syndicated afternoon reruns of Sea Hunt or attempting to whip off my glasses as George Reeves did and putting on my sweater as a cape during Superman. (I couldn't do that without almost breaking my glasses and I couldn't figure out how he did it; but after all, he was Superman, and could make himself new glasses any time he needed them....)

Yep. Also the one where you subject a lump of coal to the equivalent of a million tons of pressure for a million years....

You're welcome.

And now the theme music from Sea Hunt, which I haven't thought about in, what, two decades?, is running through my head, over and over and over.

Thanks a lot, pal!
