Hmmm...[food for thought]

Y'know, the Gilbert Research/Happiness meme that's being posted and reposted is the entire text of a copyrighted New York Times article...is LiveJournal as a "Peer-to-Peer Publication Sharing Medium" liable when users post, link, and repost someone else's copyrighted link.

If I follow a link to copyrighted material and read it, am I violating the copyright (the RIAA would say yes!)? If I don't know something is copyrighted, and I republish it, can I be prosecuted?

If I'm the New York Times, what do I do about this?
