Exciting news for Q
Based on his scores on the School and College Ability Test (SCAT), Q qualified for both the humanities and math/science programs offered by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.

owenthomas participated in their programs and got a lot out of them. The number of programs and courses is pretty overwhelming. Sadly, the Summer programs for his age are day-camp only, and it looks like the nearest ones might be a two-hour commute with traffic.

What to do?

Quinn is extraordinarily talented in math...

...but if you ask him what he wants to do right now, he wants to make movies for George Lucas.

Interlochen has a motion picture camp, but that's for high-schoolers...

pondering options...

That is one of the most unfortunately named metrics I have seen in a while. I bet it makes the test-takers giggle though.

Do they offer buses or early drop-off? Sounds like something worth making the effort to get to. Congrats to your boy!

I don't think Q noticed the acronym.

gregorsf suggested having the nephew sleep over at his grandparents Monday through Thursday. One parent could do a handoff before work on Monday and after work on Friday. It's only six weeks, after all!

Actually, the Alexandria site only seems to offer classes in the second session -- so that would be three weeks, max. I think Q and the grandparents might rather enjoy it!

how long are the programs? I vaguely remember something about them way back when, but I don't remember taking the SCAT until 7th grade. (I think timing got in the way for me too)

If the programs are few enough weeks maybe he could stay with one of your millions of friends who lives nearby for a few of the mid week nights?

[edit: Didn't remember you had local parents nor that there are alexandria locations. I think way back when it was only in B'more. owenthomas's idea for the win.]
