Ubuntu, no sugar|
My old Windows laptop needed to be slicked, anyway. It wasn't up to Vista, but I had tried to press it into service anyway. So, while we may end up back with Windows XP, so far Q has no problem logging in, bringing up the browser, and shopping for ridiculous quantities of Lego Star Wars toys. [Luckily I just let him create a wish list...kiddo does not have credit card.] His idea of money right now is that I should "just write a check, because that can be for any amount of money."
Oh, if only it were so, Q...if only...
As an experiment, I pulled down Sugar, but it needs some other spices to work right on Ubuntu 8.0.4. Actually, it comes up fine as a session manager, but if you try to use its Hulahop browser, even with the package installed, its a "no go." Q seems perfectly okay with a conventional session manager, so I'm just going to let him go with the default Gnome session and Ubuntu OS until we find that it just can't do something that he absolutely needs.
