Not quite on the MCSE upgrade
I missed it by fewer points...A score of 663 out of 700 required to pass.

Like the previous poster, I'm sure you'll get it next time. And at least you have an MCSE to start with. It would have really helped me on my last job search.

...that the purely technical certifications don't really help much any more. I'm keeping my MCSE current pretty much out of some combination of ego or stubbornness.

Unforutnately, I've found there are way too many jobs where if you don't have the acronyms, you can't even get the interview.

I think it would be different if I were seeking jobs in the industry overall, instead of moving up within the same firm where I am a "known quantity."

So maybe it's not a bad idea to keep my "acronyms" up-to-date. There is no such thing as "guaranteed job security."
